Then you are welcome to contact our contact persons around the topic career & jobs.

From receipt of your documents to job offer: The application process

Have you found an interesting vacancy? Then apply online. You won’t need more than 10 minutes. The entire application process – from initial contact to response – usually takes between four and six weeks.

For selected positions in Germany, we now also offer you the opportunity to apply by video. Further information can be found in the FAQs below.

You will receive confirmation that we have received your application – within a few minutes if you apply online; it may take a couple of days if you apply by email. Our recruiters check your application documents and get in touch with you. For some positions we will conduct a preliminary telephone interview with you.

Our recruiter submits a preliminary selection of candidates to the specialist department for consideration. The department will then look closely to check whether your qualifications meet the requirements of the job.

If you are a suitable candidate for the job, we’d like to get to know you personally in an interview with the specialist department and HR. If you or we need more time, we'll invite you to a second interview. These interviews can also take place digitally. The best thing to do is to contact your local recruiting expert directly.

Once we have agreed the contractual details, we will send you an employment contract. We will of course also let you know if your application is not successful.

Finally the time has come: welcome to thyssenkrupp!

When you sign your contract you take your first step into one of the world’s biggest group of companies. We’re there to support you – right from the start.

For this we select a member of your team to act as your guide and help you if you have questions or personal matters to discuss. We provide you with the materials you need for work, hold introductions to get to know your colleagues and their projects so that you can network within the company.

As part of your onboarding program you will join other new colleagues for an introduction to life in an international group. You will also take part in a guided tour of the site. Depending on the company, we also organize special onboarding days (e.g. Welcome@thyssenkrupp) to provide you with all the information you need right at the start and give you the opportunity to get to know other colleagues.

In the first four to twelve weeks we will invite you to a target-setting discussion in which we carry out process analyses together and give you feedback on your performance. This helps you translate our corporate strategy into your individual goals.

Before starting your application

How do I apply online?

You can start the online application process simply by clicking on the “Apply now” button in the job advertisement. Do you have your covering letter and résumé ready? Then you will need a maximum of 10 minutes to send everything.

For online applications, please note our privacy statement.

If there is no application button in the job advertisement, please send your application directly to the relevant company unit or location and stated contact. Each company processes applications independently.

We were impressed by your application. Now we’d like to meet you and learn more about you. Use the (virtual) interview to introduce yourself and gain an insight into our company and your job.

  • Show us that you are a good fit for “your” position professionally and personally. Win us over with your qualifications and knowledge of the sector and trends.

  • Prepare yourself for questions. Why did you apply? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What can you tell us about your résumé?

  • Be punctual and dress appropriately. Find out how to get to the interview, parking and local conditions in advance.

  • It’s ok to be nervous. Just be yourself. Speak calmly and clearly. Maintain eye contact with the people you speak to and a relaxed posture.

  • And breathe. After the interview we will agree on the next steps together.

FAQs on the application process

The most important thing first: Recording a video is completely voluntary. Should you decide to record a video statement, it will give you the opportunity to hand in further personal impressions of you.

No. As the video application is a voluntary addition to your application, you will not face any disadvantages if you do not submit a video. Also you have the possibility to answer the corresponding questions as free text.

We recommend to not exceed the maximum length of 2-3 minutes. Please see the information in the application form for details.

The maximum size of the file you submit must not exceed 1GB. Valid file formats are all typical formats such as avi, wmv, mp4, mpeg or mov.

Yes. Once you have recorded and uploaded your video, you can watch your recording as many times as you like. If you are not satisfied with your recording, you can easily delete it and record a new video.

Important note: As soon as you have submitted your complete application including your CV and personal details, so does the video.

Your video will not be submitted to us until you click "Submit" at the end of the application process.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. We still need your CV and your personal data. If additional documents and information are required, this is noted in the application form of the corresponding position.

In case you have questions, please feel free to contact the responsible recruiting expert. All relevant information is listed under "Contact" in the respective job ad.

Tips Video application thyssenkrupp

Here you will find useful tips for recording your video application. The file can be downloaded below.

You’ve found the apprenticeship you’ve been looking for and the right location. Now you need to concentrate on your application. But how and when should you apply? What goes into making a good application? And how should you prepare for an interview? You can find answers to the most important questions here.

  • First of course we need your application – ideally you should apply online via our advertisements.

  • Please note: Apprenticeship places are awarded directly by our local companies. Some companies are also open to speculative applications. But speculative applications to thyssenkrupp AG are not possible; please always direct your application to the specific company. If we like the look of your application, we will invite you to an aptitude test in the next step. If you pass this test, we’d like to get to know you better in an interview.

  • If you also make a good impression in the interview, a company physician will assess your medical suitability. After that, the only thing that’s missing is your signature on the apprenticeship contract – and then we can get started.

An application process takes time so you should get your application in before you complete your school-leaving certificate. What apprenticeship places are available? You can find out more than a year in advance on our job board. Plan plenty of time to prepare your application documents well – it can take a couple of weeks.

Above all, your application documents should be complete. Start with a covering letter in which you briefly introduce yourself and explain why this particular job at our company is the one for you. In addition we need your résumé in table format (you’re welcome to add a photo and you should always include your contact details, education and information on any apprenticeships and internships). This enables us to find out who you are and what you have already learned. All apprenticeship offers can be found on our job board.

Don’t worry – we know it’s one of your first applications. But still, you should avoid scruffy-looking documents and spelling mistakes, and ensure no information is missing. Let your family or friends support you.

A digital application is almost no different to a printed version. Send us your covering letter with an informative subject line via the online form and attach your résumé. Ensure you give the files meaningful names – for example: resume_lastname_firstname.doc

Even if you send your application digitally you should prepare it just as carefully as a printed application. Smileys and poor spelling are a no-go. Attach a maximum of three files and use standard file formats – ideally compressed PDF files.

Above all keep calm, be yourself and be punctual. First impressions count so you will need to dress smartly. However, you should make sure you feel comfortable in what you wear as otherwise you won’t make a genuine impression. Being punctual and looking smart shows us that you are taking our meeting seriously.

Learn as much as you can about the job you want before we meet: for example on our website or the website of the Labor Office (Agentur für Arbeit), where you can also take a practice aptitude test online.

Your apprenticeship at thyssenkrupp will start with induction days: We will introduce you to our group of companies, your trainers and your colleagues. We will also tell you everything you need to know about your apprenticeship.

We offer a wide range of seminars, sporting activities, opportunities to network with colleagues and much more besides. You will find out more when you start your apprenticeship.

You can find open apprenticeships on our job board. Set the entry level to apprenticeship and the other filters to the kinds of work and the locations you are interested in – this will show you all offers at a glance. You can save interesting positions for up to one week. Incidentally: you can also access the job board via your smartphone when you’re out and about.

An interest in several companies has no bearing on the individual application process. You are welcome to apply for multiple positions via the job offers that interest you.

Reviewing your application and the selection process take some time. Some areas also have fixed start dates. So you should always apply as early as possible. As long as the position is advertised you can apply for it.

A contact person is usually stated in the advertisements. If not, please address your application to the HR department at the company you want to apply to. If in doubt, give our employees a brief call – they’re happy to help.

We prefer paperless applications via our online form or – where stated in the advertisement – by email.

A good application comprises a covering letter, résumé, current references and (where available) certificates. All in all it should give us an impression of your professional and personal qualities.

Your application will be reviewed on the basis of predefined criteria and forwarded to the specialist department in the event of a positive assessment. We aim to provide feedback within two weeks. If the feedback is positive and you successfully complete the rest of the selection process, it can take one to three months from application to job offer. This period may vary depending on the individual job offer. As a large number of employees are involved in the decision making process, it may for example be difficult to find a date for an interview. So please understand that even if you apply promptly, the process may take some time.
